From Our Common Path to the Fork in the Road

From Our Common Path to the Fork in the Road

A Poem by Nath
"

Once two hearts have put some distance between them, their paths may not cross again.

"

I chose to go, and so I left

Behind, I left this lonely lad

Couldn't even once turn back

'cos I was too afraid of seeing him sad...

Yet, in leaving him, I also feel bereft

Of foolish hopes and silly dreams

To see everything become just as

What from the first it'd always seemed.

But weighing up the good and bad,

Future happiness and potential woe,

Determined by my choice to stay or go

Both certain and merely built on faith

I had too little courage and no trust

So I resolved: Run, girl, you know you must!

I chose to leave, he let me go

Without regrets, but even so

My heart is torn, the two halves cleft

He may have kept one when I left.

Some parts of it remain with him

Though I could not whole-heartedly stay

I still see him in my every daydream

No matter how far he may be away.

I miss him much, I want him back

I nearly chose him, but instead

I packed my bags, and off I ran

To end everything, before anything began.

Where are we headed now, my fellow fool?

Head over heels I'd fallen for you

Ready to follow, wherever you go

But just like me, you didn't seem to know

How to navigate this unknown land

We’d stumbled into, hand in hand.

The way we’d chosen was a rocky road

Till our feet grew weary of shoes full of stones

Now we walk the same desert still, but both alone -

Since we've parted ways, so we may each find our own.

Nath
Sometimes you meet people. But no matter how much of your way they'll go with you, you may not be headed in the same direction, nor towards the same destination.
