A Father's Pride

After all these years
It's still amazing to see
That the boy I once knew
Now stands a man before me

As I browse through old pics
I get a calm feeling inside
A huge smile on my face
And become lifted with pride

Baseball was our life
Always practiced together
Being your coach was a joy
Being your father was better

We would play every day
Oh' how you loved fielding grounders 
I'd hit hundreds your way
Hours upon hours

Memories of your first homer
Over the fence it towered
You demolished that ball
As if super powered

Covered in goose bumps
As you circled the bases
Smiles ear to ear
On both of our faces

That year in the playoffs
You became our playmaker
You pitched lights out
Rivalries circuit breaker

Reporters came out
Your name making newspaper
Your mom was so proud
Smiling as tears escaped her

And I look at you now
Wishing I could rewind
We spent so much time 
It's tough leaving behind

But as you continue to grow
With each new day I find
Just how lucky I am
You're truly one of a kind

So I must keep in mind
As you continue to grow
That we raised a good man
And have peace letting go

Just need you to be certain
Before you start your own show
I love you my son
More than you will ever know
