Chapter 3

Room 201

Jesik dressed in the uniform that he found lying on his bed the night before. None of the other kids had those lying on their bed and his thoughts immediately went to madam Lunsa and the fact that she knew he couldn’t afford it.

“Ready for room 201?”  His roommate Sam asked in a Swedish ascent.

Sam was strangely tall with blonde hair and blue eyes. Same as Jesik, Sam hadn’t yet discovered his crest which set Jesik’s heart at ease. He had the middle bed of the three of them.

     “Ready as I’ll ever be.”

Raghu, the Indian boy and Jesik’s other roommate, sat quietly on his bed. He was short with curly black hair but with odd blue eyes and when Raghu stared at him it sent cold wet shivers down his back.

“I’ve been meaning to ask Raghu…what is your crest?” Jesik asked awkwardly.

He cocked his head to the side and stared a minute before answering. “I’m possessed by the spirit of the goddess Ganga, also known as the water goddess.”

He grabbed the water bottle from his night stand and uncapped it. Raghu brought his hand over the bottle. When he raise his hand the water rose from the bottle and danced, following the moves of his hand before returning safely to the bottle. Not a drop spilled.

Jesik felt his eyes widen in amassment before hearing Sam speak. “What is it like?”

Raghu pondered this question a minute as if unable to find the word to explain it. “It’s as if the water is an extension of my soul.”

He felt a longing sensation deep within him as he imagined the way it felt to use a crest  , to be more than what he was now. Envy coursed through his veins, making him feel apologetic.

Jesik and Sam thought they were getting to class early following the break after the meeting in the grand hall but to their surprise it was already full of anxious students. They were lucky to get to seats next to each other, right in front.

“Good morning. I am Mr. Сд™иг. This is my first year as a teacher at the academy and I hope I can help you all reach you highest ability.”

Mr. Сд™иг was very young looking compared to the rest of the teachers here. At first glance Jesik thought he’d meet him somewhere before.

“I’m here to see to it that you all of you are able to find your powers as soon as possible so that we can place you. Wither your power is physical or mental has no effect on how fast you find it, it all depends on your heart.”

Jesik’s heart was racing with anticipation. All the doubt he felt, the fear, and pain had all lead up to this moment of realization. He could feel his powers within him, nudging just beyond the surface to release.  He felt it nudge in two straight lines on either side of his spine.

He felt it slowly filling his soul with a feeling that he could do and be anything. This was his destiny and he knew it; so let go of the barrier between him and his powers. The massive wall fell like a wall of water and instantly pain ripped through his back.

He let out a loud scream as icy hot fire burned through his body. It felt as if the entire world was making an attempt to exit through his back. The class stared at him in shock. He tried to push his powers back inside him but they denied him and only exited faster.

He screamed as loud as he could but the world around him was deafeningly silent. A girl from a few rows back jumped up and ran to him. She placed her hand on the stretching skin of his back and pushed; not physically but with her soul.

He could feel their souls make contact and the pressure subsided. Jesik gasped for air and collapsed on the floor in one big heap. There was something inside him. Was this the way all peoples powers came? Was that what it would be like?

“It looks like we have our first student to find their power. Don’t we, miss?” Mr. Сд™иг said.
