Find Another Queue

A Poem by Neville
"

True story placed here on the eve of a forthcoming 40 year school reunion

"

FIND ANOTHER QUEUE

Diane did it once

In a public telephone box

Outside our school

Later she grew famous

Until the ninth month

Of her fourteenth year

Diane was buried yesterday

Between the graves

Of a German and a Jew

Now listen friend

If you are too ashamed to remember her

Then find another queue

I must admit Nigel that I find this a bit enigmatic. I like the style of it - spare and direct. Your 40th anniversary should prove interesting. Lives diverge in interesting ways. As does our own.
I'd like to know more about Diane.
Regards.

dear Neville... I am very touched by your poem... knowing history and fear of ways
it may repeat itself. We are all products of our past... we learn as we live and grow.
Sharing is through poetry... and can be healing for so many. A way of paying our respect
to an innocent soul. truly, Pat

that is such a sad story, so young to be in such a predicament at 14, and too young to pass...

No mincing of words here, its why I like your style, that and your hair is probably always on point. This one took me aback a bit and I did not know what to think at first. As it sunk in, I found it so honest that I think you have invented a new style of poetry, but then again you are always to the point aren't you. this one is a gripper....

I want to say first how sad I'm to know it's a true story my loving friend, this is truly sad... a 14 old girl or a boy is just a child, a child can't carry or have a child, I think of education now, how parents should educate their children about their sexuality, bodies and sex, what is right and wrong at that young age. if someone don't want to remember Diane then they must find another queue, but at least they can learn a lesson from her tragic story even to teach their children about it. Your heart always the gentlest my dear Neville, Bless You*

This is a sad poem. We had our Diane's at school too. She sounds as though she was a troubled soul who found herself a grave earlier than she should have done. I reckon she was probably compensating for the lack of love she got anywhere else. And of course a baby at 14. No doubt she was parted from that poor little mite as well. In our school we had Merryl. Pregnant at 15 and sent off to Scotland where she gave birth. A few months later, she was taking her O levels. I think of the grief of being parted from your baby and whether these young girls ever got over that. Tragic.
