Shadow Envy

Shadow Envy

A Poem by Neville Pettitt

Shadow Envy

Oh’ how I envy your shadow

Forever by your side

Yet never getting in the way

I wish our love

Could always be that simple

Until the very end of days

As a kid I would love it when my mom would sing to me the old Vaudeville song "Me and my shadow" til I fell asleep (coz I followed her everywhere lol)

This recalled those days *sigh*
A delightful love filled poem Neville imparting a big punch for it's size.

Such a sweet and plaintiff wish expressed here. Lovely form, flow and rhyme. Yes, keeping things simple is the hard part. Great title and original theme. Kudos!

Of course, the shadow is only present when there is brightness to support it ;-)

But love is never simple! As for shadows .. well, you can see them in the light, but, in the dark, you can't!!
I loved this poem, it made me think!

The analogy of the shadow is done beautifully. I like the subtle rhyming. Love tends to get complicated, however much one wishes otherwise. How we wish to melt away yet be part of a loved one's life. "Shadow Envy" Such poetic flair!
