This is not an embu or moving prayer.... it is my conscience screaming.....

It’s Not Such a Small Affair

 

Looking back it seems hardly fair

That the girl with the mousy hair

 

Is about to be struck again

As they ask us to focus on

 

Air strikes and bodies in the harbour

Oh’ man

Just look at them cool nukes blow

It’s the freakiest show

 

Take a look at those dead guys

Huddled in the corner

 

Oh’ man I wonder if they ever knew

One day they would be famous

 

Take a look at those bad guys

Shooting up the good guys

 

Oh’ man

Take a look at those cool Syrian skies

Full of holy grails and vapour trails

 

Still beating up the wrong guys

With the hem of a torn prayer shawl

 

No it’s not such a small affair

For the girl with the mousy hair......

Your writing is heart-filled, Neville. Extraordinarily graphic yet empathically beautiful. Somehow, the raw telling of this poem, is - phrase by phrase a plea for the cessation of unbelievable cruelty, evil. Man's inhumanity to man has rarely been truer said.

I learn and want to, every day. Did not know but then, not sure I've ever thought about whether or not Buddhists have ever been involved in war. Do think of them with an aura of good.. but.. no.. will stop. I need to learn more, outside my own box and will. Thank you.

Innocents, the unbelievable suffering and inhumane treatment metered out just sickens the heart. It's always the innocents who suffer the most. The sights coming out of Syria are despairing. The girl with the mousy hair dies before she has had a chance to live. Your poem brings out so many emotions Neville. A great read.

It is not at all such a small affair. It takes monumental strength not to cry every time I see the aftermath of air strikes' and chemical weapons' devastation. How much more of this a human soul can bare?
