For My GrandfatherA Poem by Nevillevery few deserve to be forgotten... this one certainly does not..For My Grandfather Forty two years ago today We all wept Because we loved him so And because he never made His one hundred Despite falling short of that Personal goal He always seemed to me So very old indeed But the fact is he was Only seventy two all out And is now forever sleeping Yesterday For the first time ever I found the gray slate plaque That served to mark That he had ever been here and To record his passing For all that Or rather for the lack of it He was a great man Who did so much more than Merely live and die He must never be forgot Edward V Pettitt Passed away 10th July 1976 Aged 72 years….. © 2018 NevilleAuthor's Note
