The Muck Fairy

The Muck Fairy

A Poem by Neville
"

guess where this one came from...

"

The Muck Fairy

At the bottom of the garden

In a ragged skirt and shirt

Once lived a tatty muck fairy

Who collected trash and dirt

For a hundred years or more

She lived in the same old hole

Lined with rubbish and with litter

From the gardens that she stole

The last time that I saw her

I don’t think she saw me

She was kneeling down and

Mending the broken wing of

A poor old bumble bee

Sometimes late at night though

A tiny crumb of cake

Is taken from her plate

And tiny muddy footprints

Lead to our garden gate

Neville, extremely fanciful and reminded me a bit of Dickinson but however I love the part where she mentions the wing of the bumblebee. I very much enjoy stories of people who live on the margins or fairies that live on the margins and how they survive with their kindness is intact. Bravo for this one!

Would you happen to know how I can post my poems to Facebook as it seems not to let me.

I want to be a fairy maybe a "muddy" one but not a "mucky" one lol, I'm thinking of trolls, of little kittens, of flies too, but since You said she was there from a hundred years even more, I'm not sure about it?! what an imagination You have my friend!

you just mark my words, she is still there... maybe..
Very cute. I love the playful, light-hearted tone of this piece. It would certainly appeal to any little girl, but big girls too - my wife loves anything to do with fairies! Enjoyed this very much. Thanks for a fun read, Neville.

I am delighted that you think so Dawn.... Many thanks... Neville
I don't know how to break this to ya, but she's a lot better than you are! *wink! wink!* Of course, I'm partial to rhyme & rhythm, ya know! I love the playful spirit of this storytelling of the most original kind. I also read a chapter from Sam Dickens' father's autobiography this morning . . . everyone sharing the writing of loved ones makes me want to post a little something from the autobiography I helped my mom write. Now I need to go dig in some boxes to find it! Love your daughter's writing & I'm inspired to share more like this too! *smile* Fondly, Margie
