On A Very Cold Day

On A Very Cold Day

A Poem by Neville
"

The last one from Bex's school lunchbox, at least for now....

"

On A Very Cold Day

The polar bear sat in the corner

The penguin was blowing his nose

I’m frightened they both said together

What shall we do if it snows

We can’t make a snowman or igloo

Go skating or play on thin ice

Whatever we do said the penguin

It’s far too cold for it to be nice

So they both remained still and

Cried ice cubes with an icicle each

On their nose

Growing colder and colder together

Until their fur and their feathers

Each froze

Then in Spring an old

Eskimo postman

Found them huddled together

At dawn

You were daft to go out

With no coats on he said

Come home with me

And I shall

Make you both warm……..

I know that this was written for kids of all ages Neville, so I just wanted to congratulate you on bringing the plight of these poor creatures to powtic form. I have been known to write one or thirty poems about penguins, so its god to see the word being spread :)

the penguin and polar bear both have winter ailments.. i really find it funny yet i can visualize one of them sneezing and perhaps having a congested nose... i wonder if cold medicines will be effective for them..lol

You know, there is such joy reading these poems from You, it makes me feel the world if fine, that we live in the fantasy world we dream in/of... if I was the Eskimo postman, I would do the same too (in the fantasy world lLOL) to have a warm drink with lovely furry friends, what's better ️😊.

Thank You my dear friend, with my warmest gratitude.

This poem describes a river of thought inside my brain. Let me explain that in the first part stanza it appeals to the senses. Further it leaves the poet with a certain awareness of hope. The hope which will never let me go. I'm thriled with this ink. Thanks for sharing.

The persona of each of your characters dances off the page with palpable playfulness & protectiveness. Am I spotting a theme here . . . daddy the protector? *wink! wink!* Love how these reveal a precious side of you (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie
