No point in hiding....

Virus

 

She thrives in air pockets

In long windless corridors

Beneath moss mattresses

In graveyards and gardens

She is a survivor

Maybe

She takes no prisoners

Ever

She is always hungry and

Get this

She scavenges and probes

Deep

Within the foramen of

Discarded bones

And those of the living

 

Always present

Never proud

She is the gas attack

On your private subway

The constant

Drip drip drip in your

Personal cellar

She is everywhere and

Mark my words

Therein a deadly army grows

Each day

Countless prayers

Are wasted on her and

Who knows

How many tears are shed

In her several names

A powerful reminder of how deadly they can be. Even today, we still struggle to eliminate some. Makes you really appreciate the discovery of penicillin doesn't it? Your chances of living to a ripe old age before that were certainly thwarted. There were many cases in my grandparents time of family members dying young from TB. My great aunt winnie, died at 17. Sadly the only girl in a clan of boys from that disease. It was common. And if we continue to abuse anti-biotic, we will be back there. I love the way you have personified the she virus, turning her into a survivor, which is exactly what she can be.

That is the message that needs to be spread Neville to stop the spread of the virus :) We all need to do our bit. Your poem carries a very strong message. We All have to accept some responsibility otherwise that precious gift will become a thing of the past.

well said ... very artistic flow to your lines and verse says i ... read smoothly through all its dire warnings .. and rightfully so ... in answer to your note .. could be i suppose .. its been foretold many times in many ways in many tongues ... but right down to it my friend .. none of life stays the same .. its a physical world the moves and changes before our very eyes and we are not meant to save the body .. but i am fairly confident that this virus will see itself submitted ... under our grinding heel ;) none of these "bugs" go away ... but we do bury them real good me thinks ... love on ya brother .. very fine virus poem ... it covers a lot of ground .. and i think you nailed it!

Just that, we have over used antibiotics and other chemicals so much, inadvertently we produced drug resistants .( once more there is an out break of Ebola in Congo, worst than ever before). Some times it all feels like a totally hopeless situation!
