The Duck Billed Platypus

The Duck Billed Platypus

A Poem by Neville
"

another one from out of me daughters lunch box... long ago

"

The Duck Billed Platypus

Have you ever known a creature like

The platypus

More unusual than the average

Cat or mousycus

Though not the prettiest of creatures

It has some most endearing features

Like a shovel nose a secret pouch and

Webbed shaped toes of course

It lays its eggs not in a nest or

On a bed of course

But by the dozen almost square

And in straight rows of course

So if you ever catch sight of my

Dear platypus

Though not so ugly as a wart Hog

Or a Hippy Party Mouse

Be kind enough to let me know

Because I’ve lost one and I’m

Lonely and most unhappicus

You actually had duck billed platypus once??? Did you??? I have just read about these animals in my bio textbooks..Their scientific name is ornithorhynchus..And though they are mammals they don't have features common with all mammals...Even i want to see them in reality...I have never seen one...
You described nicely about them..
Thanks for writing and keep on sharing..
Take care

Another lunch box delight. Such a fun poem that young children would love to hear Neville. Love your word inventions. Mousycus and unhappicus made me smile.

Cheers Ana... I used to enjoy scribbling them too.... N
Most charming poem, my friend, and what a sweet idea. I used to put notes in my kid's lunchboxes, too, but if I included a poem, 'twas usually a funny limerick, or something, perhaps, by Ogden Nash.
And, Riddhi, down there--I have never seen a LIVE platypus, but I saw a stuffed one, once, in a natural history museum. Most peculiar!

Nice one Sir. I remember coming across a story of how victorian london refused to believe it was an actual animal when a stuffed exhibit appeared...and who can blame them. it isnt nice to comment on looks, because (well see my avatar and keep opinion to self please), but you do get the impression its a face only a mother could love :)
