Time Past

Time Past

A Poem by Neville Pettitt
"

that's just the way it goes

"

Time Past

Time past

Now lost

Except for

Maybe in

The mind

Of old men

Blind men

Mad men

Old sepia

Photographs

And poets

Time an ever flowing stream. Once that water has passed us as we stand on the bridge of life, it has gone forever. Before we know it, we are almost out of time and are left with the memories of what was important to us. If we are poets we will put pen to paper. Sepia is for our ancestors, and yes I look and reflect on them too. We will be viewed in colour. That's where your words took me Neville. Quite a sad tone to your lines.

And I, my friend, are one of those old men...mad men...with a trunk filled with old black and whites to reflect on. Sometimes it seems our lives were only half in colour...and we look back with rose coloured glasses trying to determine where the years went and yet, here we are...I suppose the good thing is at least we are still able to put thoughts on paper that make sense.

A good write, my friend.

Your words here are fit to be framed and preserved forever. Original. Brilliant. Engaging. This is such a classic poem from you, N.
