I can hear you breathe

I know the sound now

I know the tilt of your face

lit by the night sky

as you rest from the world

and from me

I know the exact length

of the shadow of your lashes

as your closed eyes keep safe

your sleeping thoughts

I know the length of your stride

between grass and tree and sand

as you move through space

and come to me

I know the taste of your mouth

and the need I feel

as you taste my want of you

I can hear you breathe

I know the sound now
