Desertion

Desertion

A Poem by K

The one person I always thought would be there,
To hold me,
To care of me,
To love me forever,
Deserted me,
Abandoned me,
Left me behind,
To wonder what I did wrong.
What did I do wrong?
Part of me whispers nothing,
That I couldn't have made you stay.
The other side drowns out the first
With lies that tell me if only I had been a better daughter.
And yet, through it all, I still want you back, want you home.
Why?
Because of the fact that though not always present when you were there,
You raised me, you're my father, and we had some pretty good times together.
But things will never be the same.
You broke my trust
In you,
In guys,
In the world.
And before I can love anyone
With all my soul,
With all my heart,
And with all my strength,
I need to know what love is.
