Dragon War

Dragon War

A Poem by K
"

My adventure into fantasy type poetry

"
Blood had been spilled.
They could smell it.
Murder had been committed here.
Broken fragments of a shell
Lay scattered at their feet,
Their offspring dead before it had ever lived.
They could smell them,
Those that had done it.
Humans.
They vowed to avenge,
To hunt those who had hurt their unborn offspring.
But they turn on each other,
In their rage, they fought.
The real culprit forgotten in light of their grief.
With savage ferocity,
They advanced on one another.
With murderous intent,
The war was fought.
Until, bleeding, they lay,
Dying for naught.
While the reason their rage had been awoken
Rejoiced in the nearby town,
Feeling himself the hero,
Congratulating himself for bravery,
For killing the innocent young.
His kind gave him the glory he never deserved.
Drowning the regret in drinks manifold,
He boasted to return to the cave
Where he vowed to kill and rid the land of the remaining monsters.
With the days fading last rays of light,
He returned to the cave,
His drink having washed his fear away,
As well as his logic.
The creatures he hunted,
Lay where they fell, their strength ebbing,
Their vision wavering, their life fading.
But still they lived, if only slightly.
And the smell they caught on the wind,
Caused them to see their wrong.
They threw themselves upon one another,
And now they would ne’re live to see another day.
But the sinner walked free, His hands forever stained with blood.
They swore to, with their dying breath,
Kill him that came to destroy.
One life lost to fear,
Two for naught but wrath,
And one for hatred.

Take this how you will. Some people say they see abortion clinics in this. Others don't see any imagery.

Dragon lore is always fodder for the nights in front of the campfire. Ancient ancestral memories are fed by fire and smoke. Imagination "Live" in small groups is exhilarating. Thank you for sharing.

Abortion clinics?? That's digging pretty deep. All I saw was dragons getting pissed because someone killed their babies. I thought it was good, I love dragons, I love high adventure. I'm a little confused, "the sinner walked free" and then "one for hatred" implies that the dragon slayer both lived and died. Which is it? I hope he died. We need more dragons in the world, we don't need more drunk cowards.
