poignant and personal to anyone who was around when it occurred... even as far away as Newfoundland we felt the pangs of those suffering. A great write from such a simple word. Great job!

it's still very fresh in the minds of those involved, I imagine.

Damage
Over time
I met many lost souls
wandering the sandy beach
on those warm
breezy days
I would strike up conversation
while walking
and gathering shells
It was all the same,
left homeless,
replanted in various locations
throughout the country
The tales of waiting,
waiting for rescue,
rescue from rooftops
and personal hell
The stories of loss,
loss of loved ones,
loss of belongings,
loss of being carefree
ever again
Voicing their fear
to a stranger on the beach
Fear, every time a raindrop appears
Fear, of letting their family out of their sight
Fear, of never rebuilding their lives
I will never forget those beach days
I will always remember
the accounts of pain, loss, and fear
that were in the heart of those
hurricane refugees
Katrina…
the cause of so much damage…
physical, emotional, spiritual
Healing is still in the works for many
My prayers to all who have suffered…
the damage
