I Wish I Could Write

I wish I could write that poem
that casts you in the light
that my mind's eye
beholds you.
The poem that shows how
bright your eyes shimmer
in candlelight.
The poem that, beyond your protests,
proves you are so very fetching.
I want to write the poem that reveals
your strength and your vulnerability
and melds them into the stunning
sight that is all of you.
That poem that the Bard once penned,
that dark piece that Poe
wrote on sheepskin.
That lovely, yet harsh lilt of Whitman.
I want to write the poem that leaves some
breathless
The poem that leaves others
tempted
The poem that stirs men's loins
The poem of you.

As aspirations go that is a good one. To do one thing well is an achievement few obtain. The problem is knowing it when you find it. It may well be that this very poem is it. It may be you never realize what is great and grand when you yourself authored it.
