Let Love Blossom

Let Love Blossom

A Poem by Norman223
"

Having "attacked" Christmas and New Year, February Is inviting a similar castigation :-)

"

Now, if I had my way, St Valentine’s Day
Would no longer be held in the winter.
Let’s have it in Spring - it’s a romantic thing

Give your loved one spring flowers, don’t stint her.
Gifts of chocolate are great, but if she puts on weight
Then that could be a cause for contention
But it shows that you care, so the thought is there
......But I hate one stupid convention.

This one should be barred, it’s sending a card
That’s left blank, with no clue of the sender.

Commercially printed , androgenously hinted

So you're  not even sure of the gender.

For woe betide you, if you reply to
The wrong person you think has admired you.
So this Valentine’s joke, should be stopped, at a stroke.
…….. Now, I think I've changed all I've desired to.

As always, you manage to look at some everyday custom in life & make it into a total sham! *wink! wink!* I've never been one to celebrate holidays much . . . maybe it's having no significant other & no kids, which seems to be the main reason for remembering this stuff! I prefer to just gift people with some thoughtfulness for no reason at all. Like these (((HUGS))) for you! *smile* Now I want to write a spoof on the silliness of celebrating so many different holidays!

Oh, you know women--they can never get enough romance in their lives. Valentine's day meant something to me when I was quite young, and as I think back, my very first romantic engagement was that of giving a card to a girl. (At about age 10, I think)
This has little to do with your excellent and thoughtful poem, but I recall seeing something very sad one Valentine day. As I sat in the school parking lot waiting for my son to get out, a sea of young girls flowed out of the building carrying bouquets of flowers and colored balloons that had apparently been gifted to them by an admirer. One rather plain girl carried only her books, and she looked sad. It broke my heart.

Gee
Morning Norman. Have put my back out many a time helping carry the sack loads of cards, gifts, underwear from my legion of adoring GEE-ettes. This year I'll be in Rome with my dearly beloved and child so he'll have to struggle on alone.
A delightful wee poem

Lovely, made me smile. But are you not politically incorrect putting 'to' after 'desired'? Great to be in touch again.

Yes. Actually the statement works ... especially as the rest of the poem is so well written
I loved your funny take on this Sir. I am sure you would come up with an equally amusing theory even if it is celebrated in some other season. Such is your wit!
Added to that in our country the annual exams are around the corner and a whole week beginning with Rose Day and ending with the Valentine day occupies adolescent's minds. The most excited ones are the high schoolers. I see their disinterest in class and bubbling excitement about those things. Seeing them like that is actually a lot of fun.
Thank you for this witty poetic blossom.

Sir, your poems are always so delightful. Hand made cards with a name on it ( gender too) though can be a beautiful present. I have seen how some people celebrate whole valentine week.
I liked it, Sir :-)
Like always you give us readers something enjoyable to read !

you are so right about the season, Norm. the powers that be should sit up and take notice. why winter indeed?
I'm not very familiar with Valentine's day as not many people celebrate it here but I didn't know people sent anonymous cards.
I like your humourous style.

I do not have that problem Norman. It's pretty easy to guess who my valentine is from my neighbours kid, as she makes me one from the card making set I got her for Christmas :)
Maybe one year I'll get a second and then my head really will explode :)
