Just a thought!

Just a thought!

A Poem by Norman223
"

Never mind the spelling, listen to the sound.....

"

On the grounds of sexual equality

I feel that the Church is amiss

For they only specify “Amen” in church

 Not Ah-Woman or even Ah-Miss

So, it seems to me, Christianity

With it’s old fashioned values is wrong.

For by implication, when a mixed congregation,

Raise their voice  in devotional song

They seem quite unaware

 Of the prejudice there

That the  music they’re singing infers

That it clearly entails, that the Church favours males.

For they still only sing hymns  - not hers?

Incredible! Your message though humorous in presentation is so very clear and on target. Very well written and on point.

Excellent word play, and very clever humor. The tongue-in-cheek is great, and the pacing leading to the punchlines are great.

Even tho your piece is well-written in good fun, there's also a serious note for me about our current cultural wars here in the USA . . . so much seemingly intentional bias in the way people choose & deliver their words! Drives me nuts lately, which is why I often go incommunicado. But I'm glad I returned to find this new gem from you, becuz it's very well written with sophisticated word choices thru-out, as well as the wordplay you're referring to! You see the world with unique eyes & wit! (((HUGS)))

Well, I had to look up the origin of "amen": paraphrasing here, but "verily", "truly" or "Yup", "I concur", etc. There's some pagan and Egyptian influences, and one article I read did say "HE speaks the truth." But, that goes back to centuries of a patriarchal society...
That said...clever little gem, Norman123.

I think you have nailed it on the head, with this brilliant piece of poetry. When I was at school, when we were having assembly prayers, my little group always said 'Ah-woman' at the end!

A rather whimsical way of looking at it. We know the Bible was written a long time ago and by men, which in my view explains the male domination theme found throughout. Things are slowly changing, despite those who resist.
