TELEVISION

TELEVISION

A Poem by Norman223

.

We’re being overwhelmed with  television

Which get bigger as new houses and rooms get small.

You walk into a sitting room

And the television takes up the whole wall.

With its High Definition  satellite dish

Sound Bars and 3D  on a curved screen

 We  get  nine hundred programmes

(Which we’ve already seen).

But to be fair, it tries to meet every taste,

Provided you  have all day to waste.

There are TV chefs whose cooking appears

To be mainly frying sliced veg in a wok

And you learn how TV auctioneers

Can make you a fortune from your old broken clock

There are programmes on dressing, and how to lose weight.

But what’s so depressing, is to see how they choose

Celebrity scandals, which they then elevate

To make TV headlines  , for what they call news.

But there’s one thing in  Britain, that if we survive

We get a free TV licence, when we’re seventy five.

Well said Norman. Half of TV now is not so much entertainment or informative, but just simply a load of so called celebrities having their five minutes of fame and boring the pants of the rest of us. Inane comes nowhere close

I'm with you on David Attenborough

You are singing my song, dear friend (((HUGS))) I get calls to add more channels & I tell them: There's no new content! The same shows are recycled constantly. I have 200 channels & nothing to watch! Your poem takes this focus out a little wider to taken in everything that annoys about TV, so the net result is hilarious! Your ending barb is truly a delight! Wow! To get all this nothingness for free! If you've written this recently, then your creativity is all fired up! I'm looking forward to reading more! *smile* Fondly, Margie

ha ha...this is really insightful and funny...with a great rhyme scheme.

yes, they get bigger and more full of news to compete and outdo...talk shows...why do we need a bigger screen to look at people talk?
oh this makes me remember NY in the 50's for me...watching the old black and white...with the fuzzy picture.
