A Whale of a Tale.

A Whale of a Tale.

A Poem by Norman223

Not to be taken as Gospel truth™

It’s recorded in the Bible that Ninevah

Had taken hedonism too far.

Their manifold sins were so decadent

God sent Jonah to make them repent.

Who, perversely took it into his head

To take a boat to Tarshish instead.

Now God was furious and sent a tempest

And the terrified sailors thought it then best

To throw their passenger into the sea

And lo, the storm ceased miraculously,

 Leaving Jonah swimming to Tarshish

Who was swallowed then by a darned great fish.

He dwelt  for three days in the abdomen

 Of this great aquatic denizen.

But by the third day after eating raw fish

Poor Jonah then began to wish

 He hadn't decided to rebel

As even he had started to smell.

Accommodated midst blubber and slime

Meant neither was having a whale of a time.

For piscine guts are not designed

To tolerate residents of this kind.

So when its system could take no more,

An involuntary belch threw Jo. onto the shore.

But, physiologically, there’s no question

It seriously upset the whale’s digestion.

And as antacid was not yet invented

Nature , in it wisdom, clearly relented.

And so as it evolved, this creature still,

Exists on a copious diet of krill.

Amusing, and you tell a story, I like it. Imaginative poem, I can see the blue whale, he is cruising the oceans, when hungry, positioning himself where is the strongest swarm waits and open his mouth..

clever twist to bring this classic story to a end. Loved it.

THIS IS KILLER (whale)!!!! One of your very best, once again blowing our socks off with your most disgustingly-detailed belch! I had a visual image going the whole time, fully engaged with the olfactory, so that I almost forget to notice your well-crafted rhyme & rhythm!!! Good opening line, who isn't drawn in by hedonism?!?! *smile* You continue to amaze & delight! I need to read this again . . . (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Very amusing! I should think eating Jonah would be enough to put any whale off his food! Did Jonah ever get to Ninevah?

ahahahah and isn't that so amazing .. those huge beasts getting their fill on krill ...have you seen the videos of how they work as a pack to bundle and confuse them ..by circling closer and closer to the surface while taking turns going up the middle gulping hundreds maybe thousands at a time .. amazing! sure enjoyed your lighter version of that desperate flight and repentance of Jonah .. Nineveh then, reminds me of America today in so many ways .. :(
