I can give you something for that

I can give you something for that

A Poem by Norman223

Ticking  boxes, ticking boxes

Is the doctors’ latest mania

For computer diagnosis

Means we all get the same

Loads of statins to get rid of

Every  vestige of cholesterol

So we can't absorb our vitamins

And we’re always in pain.

Then they find that isn’t working

So they then try something different

Which then raises complications

Which means even more pills.

So expensive therapeuticals

Means that wealthy pharmaceuticals’

Little boxes are the cure-all

For the whole nation’s ills.

The paradox is that it foxes

Most of us when we’re sorting out

All our tablets into boxes,

In an ordered display

Now,  is it this one with my breakfast,

And these two when I go to bed

And two lots in blister packs

 Of capsules (blue and red.)

Oh, I think I’m going crazy

But if go and tell to the Doc..

He will just diagnose "depression"

And add more pills to my stock.

Great Norman and spot on. You feel that you are at the mercy of a well greased (with money) pharma' machine that puts our interest very low on the agenda. Your finale is too funny but spot on. I've just spent a year going through the medical mincer and it is definately not funny.
Throw them away - I'm too scared! Good that your funny bone hasn't been amputated.
Cheers, Alan

I admire you for being able to tell this story with an underlying sense of humor. If it were me, I'd be likely to launch a rant about it! You've pegged it so well, the way our medical traditions seem to insist that more & more pills are required, until we need a production line in order to get everything sorted & organized & swallowed. We must take pills to counteract what other pills do to us, on & on, until it's impossible to be extricated from this ritual or face certain death. I am proud to only be taking 2 pain pills per day & nothing else prescribed. It took me a few years to hone this down from the massive quantities I let doctors talk me into for a good part of my life! But I feel a rant coming on so I'll shut up now. I'm glad your fortifications have helped you more than hurt you! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

At the age of 87+, I enjoy writing as an optimistic exercise to keep senility at bay, for I now accept old age as being unavoidable. Basically, although a fairly serious person, I prefer satire, as.. more..
