It only hurts when I laugh !!!

A Poem by Norman223
"

Just a bit of "invalid" fun .

"
I've recently become bionic......
Not like Robocop, just a miniature part
With a gizmo that reads
If my aorta needs
A boost, when my heart fails to start.
Now this cardiac mini self- starter
Has one very serious flaw.
If you go to a Supermarket,
Never linger by the door.
For scanners will sense that you are unpaid goods
Which upsets security more.

Now you have to empty your bags out!
With a siren bleeping away
But although you have nothing illegal
They don't listen to what you say
And when they threaten to give you a strip search
You bare your upper body to view
To reveal the bruises and scars of your implant
...And why not ....?j Just embarrass them too.

Now, this of course is just fantasy
As I sit in enforced inactivity
Whilst my bruised and battered torso
Rebels against enforced passivity
But I have to find something to scribble
To let my Muse know I'm stll alive .
So this poetaster activity
Despite its naivety
Proves it's struggling so hard to survive.

I have that same gizmo, so now I know i'm in excellent company. Here's to our enforced inactivity that only appears that way to others. Little do they know that inside, we're climbing mountains and slaying dragons. Why, sometimes we even write poems and stories. You may be a bit bionic, but you'er a natural story-teller.

You would think that store employees and security would be better prepared to handle situations like this, instead of causing shame and humiliation to all. Be proud of those scars and imperfections. They show your valor and how much life is bursting inside of you!

oh my God....to get strip searched at a grocery store because of a pacemaker...

how embarrassing for them, in the end.

you are so clever with your ideas.

When i saw the title i thought of Neil Simon...Marsha Mason...and that movie.

Great fun Norman. I'm not sure what the young ones on WC think about our change of outlook and inspiration as 'things call apart' and bits fall off. We need to write about something - right!
Good to read you're 'ticking over'.
Regards.

Yay! Welcome back Norman! So glad you are feeling better and writing again. So funny that you have written this droll poem about your implant. Love the title, form, wordplay, cadence and rhyme. Don’t you let anybody strip-search you my friend-ha! You’re back in great form- no one rhymes like ‘Norm’!

This is the first that I heard of your plight;
I hope,my dear poet, that you'll be all right.
Be careful when you find yourself at the store!
Do not make yourself have to suffer yet more.
I really hope, friend, with the full heart of me
That you will enjoy a full recovery.

I believe your pacemaker must be sending more oxygen to your muse, becuz you haven't written this eloquently & playfully since I don't know when!?!?! It would be fun to write a story about how your pacemaker causes weird stuff to happen everywhere you go, tripping control systems from your toaster to your bathroom scale! *wink! wink!* Well keep popping out of bed, my friend, becuz we need your mirthful satire here as they keep rounding up more & more clergy for bad deeds! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
