The Girl

The Girl

A Poem by NotYourChinaDoll

She was the girl that no one knew.
Always in the background.
Watching from afar.
Just the quiet one no one saw.
She became invisible.
No one noticed when she stopped coming.
No one really cared.

She floated farther and farther away,
caught in the undertow,
with nobody to pull her back.
Drowning in the loneliness,the despair.
Sinking.

Then one day an old friend returned,
To throw out a life line to the drowning girl.
To pull her into a warm embrace.
Love and acknowledgment was all it took.
someone to realize she was there,
and be there with her.

The change was slow and gradual yet unmistakable.
The smile returned to her lips,
The sparkle to her eye.
She stepped away from the sidelines and into the light.
Old friendships were rekindled,
and new friends made.

To look at her now its hard to believe
That she was once that poor girl drowning in the sea.
All this because of that one friend,
who cared enough to reach out and pull her in.

Wow, I liked this a lot. I especially like your comparison of emotional distress to being pulled out to sea. I wish I knew more about poetry so I could be more helpful in telling you what to improve on but all I can see is a really good poem.

The whole flow and ebb of this poem is lovely, as well as the theme running through it. Amazing, isn't it, how one person can pull your life together.

Sweet and indeed, heart touching. Sometimes a friend, the only one who can pull a friend back in and change her/his life a whole new. Simply but amazing how that can be.
