Us Black Women

Us Black Women

This is dedicated to all South African women for women's day!..

Us Black Women

Us, Black women, like samples at a store set out to be picked over and never fully paid for.
Us, Black women, like an African slave, trapped in our own skins are the bones,
Prisoners on our own land,
Oppressed by the horrifying past,
Contradicted by the confusing present,
And fearful of the uncertain future.

Still hearing the cries of babies left behind by their own mothers,
You not knowing the pain of raising a black son, only having them to call you "not loyal" and "w****s" on the radio,
Being the mother of a black child is not an easy thing,
You've got to call on Jesus and listen to the angles sing.

Having men call you by names so out of style, next time just raise your head and smile.
Running this world since it started,
With not much dedicated to us either than a few days, and a bunch of poems used to undress everything but our minds.
Millions of songs made to make us feel like, we were born to be called anything but our names.

We get one Dr Judy Dlamini every 45 years,
We get one South African teenage pregnancy every 45 minutes.
Still tasting the blood of all the wounds she licked to get us here,
And we are constantly trying to get back there,
How disconnected we are, yet hanging from the same umbilical cord.

Stop saying we not worth it,
And us women, stop falling and believing.
Make your mother a meal for no reason,
Stop making excuses and putting your hands on us,
And us women,lets respect us.

Stop running out on us, stop running over us,
Stop treating us like samples at a store,
Do not touch us, if you have no plans of taking us home.
