Shield held High

Shield held High

A Poem by O!
"

An oldie (lost in the wipe out) uploaded again for my new friends and coz of the 'inspired by movies' contest...when i wrote it i didnt think of the movie but am sure that subconsciously the inspiration came from one of my fav. movies 'Braveheart'.

"

In the scorching sun

The reflecting shield is held high,

blinding the evil arrows,

which like lightning pierce the sky

splitting the air with a thunderous roar

but not one muscle twitches

in his outstretched arm.

His armour is his body,

a masculine display of muscle

enveloped by sweat,

which drips, almost pouring,

like torrential rain,

but it floods not, his determination,

making him the Man he is:

a Fighter, a Warrior, a Soldier; the Leader.

He smells victory before the siege is begun

His strength, carried by his voice

give his fellow warriors and brothers

the power to stand tall,

crouched, yet taller than any fort,

protecting and defending

Their People.

Die if he must,

but on His righteous soil

His Land, His Ground, His Kingdom

and that of his children.

He will not be broken.

He can not be broken.

The arrows he stops

One by One,

and each of its head he breaks

just like he will, each neck

of his enemy, Hung!

They will pay

with their life,

which is their Death.

His Shield still shines.

Great depiction of William Wallace in words. One of my favorite movies..and not for effects...only for the bravery. The story was wonderfully told in your poem...I can see scenes in your words.

Nice work!

I loved this! Such vivid, empowering description and language. A more glorious look at war and battle. In particular, I enjoyed the lines: "making him the Man he is: / a Fighter, a Warrior, a Soldier; the Leader." Fantastic! =) Great job!!!

Wow, a really supurb write. A great read, I enjoyed it a great deal. The poem...it was, well hard to describe. He stood tall and proud and would never give up, saving his children and his people. He was so brave and strong and you brought all that into your writing in perfect timeing. Love the pic you put with it, I saw that movie and loved it till the end... Great job with flow imagery. Well done! ;)

I believe William Wallace was a true giant among men. Your poem is a noble tribute to him and his sacrifice.
