An odd day for this sentiment
Though it may lack any grace or eloquence:
'Life is a b***h,
And we all do die'

Despite any inherent benevolence
In retaining air within lungs
And despite the inherent malevolence
Of being born into a meat grinder
Just to exhaust that breath
on the necessity of "the grind"
But despite that duality
There is this strange thing called hope
That in the past I've plainly called ill begotten
Plainly
Because what is hope if not a carrot on a string
Leading us blindly toward some intangible future
That with "luck"... is better than whatever present
We may be so blatantly stuck in now
But again despite that
If hope is the carrot
Than death is obviously the stick
You either run from death
Or towards the future
The grave or the skyline.
To declare that you're somewhere in between
Is to declare that you have yet to be familiarized
With what it may be like to die
For I promise you, all those that have seen it
Have either taken full and complete flight
Or succumbed to the allure of letting go
There is no in between in the face of non-existence
And if you argue otherwise
Than you are part of that lucky majority
That have not been forced to confront
What is between you and the almighty.
Now on that note I am no christian
And on that note I'd rather equate hope
To peace of mind before I do heaven.
I'd rather chase hope peacefully
Than run from a fear of hell
But under either circumstance
The implication is to get your feet moving
For if there really is an in between,
For all those that are not living in some sort of ignorant bliss
Or for all those who have come to terms with their inevitable mortality
Than the in between is simply standing still
Standing still or floating
Down the river of consciousness
That we all perceive to be swimming in
My advice then
And the reason I'm writing this morning,
Is to state:
That it's better to run
Than to ride the current.
That it's better to fight
Than to lay down and die.
And that it's better to understand why
Before leading a life uselessly dissatisfied.
