Homeless

Homeless

A Poem by Owen Aldin
"

Misconceptions of homeless people

"

Homeless

Dirty, smelly, filthy,

Just words?

Words we can use for ourselves.

We get dirty in our gardens.

Smelly when we run.

Filthy when we clean.

But words cannot hurt the homeless.

Moving from corner to alleyway,

Box to gutter.

Yet we watch,

And laugh,

And scorn.

But why the reaction.

Of all the evil in our lives,

They are the most harmless.

They do not take our freedom,

Nor our strength or dignity.

They embrace us with politeness,

And the gift of a smile.

They aim to provide us,

With positive emotions,

Entertainment,

And a feeling of existence.

Which they offer for free,

And yet we still choose,

To, ignore, laugh or dismiss.

Yet all of this without knowing their story,

A story to surely appreciate.

So next time take a second,

And think ‘homeless’, ‘harmless’, ‘human’.

Give something back,

For their donation of positivity,

Presented to you.

I think a lot of people fail to realise that sometimes it's not your fault, it's just bad luck and maybe a few bad decisions that we're all capable of. Falling on hard times doesn't mean you deserve to be shunned or mocked. Hopefully people realise that more and more one day. Excellent poem, a very positive message.

This is very well written. Society doesn't take enough into account before they start judging. Why do they look down on those who suffer? Sure sometimes bad decisions are made but some times they are made for some sort of betterment. Anyways, great job and keep up the good work. Thank you
