The Man Who Lived Behind The Wall

The Man Who Lived Behind The Wall

A Poem by P.H. Carver

There once was a man,

Who lived behind a wall,

None knew if he were short, fat, or tall.

"What are you doing with your life?" I said, "it's such a waste!"

"Not really," said he, "I have my own taste."

He hid behind his wealth,

Not willing to come out,

When I called out to him he said,

"Do not shout!"

The only ones seen,

From behind the wall,

Were servants he sent,

To stock food for fall.

He died alone he did,

With no one at all,

But none shall forget,

The man behind the wall.

This has such a feel of Mervun Peake about it. I loved it's simplicity and nonsense element. Wonderfully structured and formed. As good a piece of nonsense poetry you'll get. Loved it, and for the record so did my five year old grandaughter. She laughed a hellof a lot. Great work.

The very wealthy are eccentric sometimes .. They hide from prying eyes .. And I think it is very lonely in there ...

A light rhyme for sure, but a start.

Even the wealthy are not always living life to the fullest... the wall seems to be this man's shield to the world, I sense that he is avoiding true contact with the outside world... maybe he is afraid he will be vulnerable and subjected to being taken advantage of. It could be pride that keeps a man from truly living. Very thought provoking. Great read!

if you were making a commentary on wealth, the people who hide behind it, that being the only thing they are know for. Great job. I like the soft touch on a NOW subject.
