Bent necks and far-off eyesA Poem by William Bradley DevereauxSonnetBent necks and far-off eyes in search to find What since is lost but known to still be there. Not big in size, the other of her kind, Yet always in my mind it is the bear. In time most plain but not alike the rest. Nothing to do as if to seem a bore, Point to the pole I did but must confess, With but one glance the search was held no more. What once was something that here could be found To aide those lost and guide through night the way, Blends now with stars across the sky profound Only to shine brighter another day. As those adrift look north to find what's true, Their guide above glows not as strong as you. © 2010 William Bradley Devereaux |
