Lesson after lesson

Lesson after lesson

A Poem by Sarrah.246

I remember as a young child
being in the bath
being on the beach
holding sand and water

I remember knowing I could hold anything
The faith I could hold everything
Anything

Yet I still recall clear as day the confusion
yet how deeply fascinating it was
to hold some things

wide eyed to see them slip through my fingers

going back to being on the beach and in the bath and the kitchen sink, the rain and small particles of sugar, salt and sand
cupping it in my tiny naive hands
Frustrated and confused

Why couldn’t I hold them in my hands
No matter how close I held them together they slipped through some invisible crack I couldn’t cement
How confused and broken my thought train was I couldn’t comprehend it, understand it, objects I couldn’t hold

Now I remember
And I realise it was a lesson I hope my children have
It’s the same
The same with life
The same with people

No matter how hard you try honey
Some things aren’t in your hands and you can’t control and look after them
And sometimes it’s okay

You can’t hold sand and water and sugar and rain

The same way you can’t make people feel things or be with them or control everything happening in life.

There's something I sincerely like about this work and it's the simplicity of dealing with a philosophical issue. Clearly defined with an economy of words it yet creates word pictures and resurrects memories and all of it is done with exceptional skill. Thank you for this one.
