Letter to my Future

Letter to my Future

A Story by Kathryn Smith

I want you to know that it's our time

you and me bleed the same light

I want you to know that I'm all yours

you and me run the same course

I'm better under your reflection

Sometimes I think my heart and imagination are much too big for my own good.

My hopeless romantic self was going a bit crazy last night.

I have officially gone waayyyy off the deep end with these thoughts swimming about in my mind..

but that's what a hopeless romantic does.

Right?

I'm not really sure who my future love will be.

Then again who knows. Maybe he's reading these very words I've been writing down.

This is a letter for you, whoever you are:

Dear Future Love,

We can dance in the middle of the night like a pair of lunatics who don't have a care in the world.

Watch the sunset with me.

Look up at the stars next to me.

I wouldn't wish for anything because everything I've ever wished for would be in my presence.

If we wait a while, maybe we'll see the stars burst into the light of a glowing sunrise.

Cook with me!

Take off your shoes and walk on the beach with me.

Kiss me in the rain.

Find me a dress and I'll find you a suit and tie.

Be my shopping buddy. I guarantee I'll make shopping more exciting.

We can walk around a random town like we own it. No one will know who we are.

We'll be turning heads because they've never witnessed such perfection that we will emulate together.

Tell me your stories.

Fill my head with your words.

Tell me a piece your history that you're proud to call your own.

Laugh with me until our mouths hurt, our eyes water and our ribs are pierced with soreness.

Look at me like you're the luckiest man on earth and you've scored a million goals.  I'll look at you in the same way.

We can fight, give and take, live and learn from one another. It'll only make us realize how much we love each other.

We can hike in the woods and imagine we're in an old classic piece of literature.

Let’s find some alcohol and drink it from the bottle on the floor!

Carry me to your bed and hold me in your arms all night like it's the last time we'll be alive.

Drench me in fun.

Write a book with me and we can create a happy ending.

I promise I'll make every second worth it.

Love Always,

Your future
