Mom's Dirt Cups

Mom's Dirt Cups

A Story by Kathryn Smith

One of my favorite treats as a child growing up were dirt cups.

Cups with pudding, crushed up Oreos, and gummy worms.

My siblings often had them for birthday treats, or took them to school to share with our class.

One year, my friend's mother asked my own mother what her secret was.

How did she crush the Oreos so well? They were like dust!

My mom smiled and told her secret.

(And yes, feel free to try this writers!)

My mother would take a package of Oreos and wrap them in bag after bag after bag.

She'd take them outside.

She'd place them in the driveway.

And finally she got into the family car and ran over the Oreos multiple times.

And that was the key.

"...the wheel of the bus go 'round and 'round". And the oreos get ground and ground...

This is funny and I'm assuming true.
