Be Still

Be Still

A Story by Kathryn Smith

We look forward.

We look next to us.

We look beside us.

We look down.

We look below.

We close our eyes.

And we sleep.

But when do we ever look up?

And for how long do we actually look?

I went outside tonight

To look at the stars.

Meteor showers are here.

And as I stood there, my patience was thinning.

But something told me to be still.

To keep watching.

And suddenly

It flashed across the sky

A magnificent shooting star.

White and bright.

Beautiful.

A smile kissed my face

My eyes sparked

I took a step forward

And my heart stopped

There was the moon

Bold and bright.

Be still

The wind whispered.

And that's when I realized.

The franticness I have felt lately

Is so silly

So useless

If  I continue to be still

To relax

I will find things I missed

Things of glory

Things that take breath away

I don't want to sleep

I want to stare at the sky

and wish upon ever meteor

That lights up

And glides

I love staring the night with bright moon and glittering stars. Since I've never seen meteor I could only wish if I could witness it too! Basically I liked the simplicity of your poem.
