End of the World

End of the World

A Story by Kathryn Smith

It feels like the end of the world.

A hurricane.

Another hurricane.

A third hurricane.

Plus a raging fire.

Fire.

More Fire.

Terrorism.

Death.

Destruction.

Starvation.

Prejudice.

Hate.

Before my very eyes.

This world seems to be falling to pieces.

And I feel so helpless.

I don't deserve any of this.

The nice things I have..

And it's just not fair.

I'm scared.

What if someone's watching me.

What if I am trafficked.

Are we safe anywhere?

I need to make a change.

What change? Yes, Christians believe the end of days is manifesting, others believe we are headed for the earth to shift on its axis as it did oh, some bajillion years ago, some blame all of it on global warming, there are many theories and ideas about why this world seems to be in a self-destructive and chaotic state. Some are "preppers" and this occupies their minds and bodies and leaves no room for fretting and worrying, some are partying like it's 1999, others just live in fear and this manifests in mental, then physical imbalances. If the end is nigh, do you want spend what time there is feeling sick? Or stressed? Dear Kathryn, all you can do...is all you can do. Be smart about being safe, but live your life until you can't...you never know, that might be longer than you think and just imagine the time you would have missed out on by hiding out waiting for Armageddon, or a Zombie Apocalypse. If you are not directly affected by these hurricanes or fires, then bless others which will bless you tenfold by stepping up and helping. I'm sorry for this long winded, un asked for advice, but the entire tone of your piece was alarming, not the events you describe, but your reaction to them. You won't hurt my feelings if you respond with "Okay, whatever...Thanks for reading...blah..blah...blah." But I put my two cents, wait, this is pretty long, so maybe it's 50 cents worth of pasty middle aged white lady advice. *laughing*
