Among the Bricks

Among the Bricks

A Poem by Kathryn Smith

Among the bricks; I am the last one standing.

I've attended the same church all my life.

But everything has changed.

My sister and brother moved away...

And my mother and father now prefer another church.

So I go alone.

And it breaks my heart.

Because my church was home.

I grew up there.

People prayed for me when I was born.

I want to get married there.

One day.

Among the bricks.

Even though

I am the last one

Standing

I understand this poem. Old and safe places. We need to hold on to. It is sad when places of joy become lonely. Thank you dear Kathryn for sharing your amazing words and thoughts.
