Whispers

Whispers

A Poem by Kathryn Smith

All her life

There were whispers

"She's so pretty"

"So dainty"

"So timeless"

"So elegant"

"So true"

But her heart was withered

Battered

Bruised

She furrowed her eye brows

If I'm so pretty she thought

Where is my muse?

Everyone has someone

But me

Is it my own fault I lose?

Her thoughts scattered

On ink and paper

Letters around the globe

But no one dared to care

And no man showed

Perhaps she was too pretty

Too reckless

Too brave

Too wild and free

 Fiery and fierce

Perhaps her own self

Was something man feared

Intimidating they whispered

Her eyes could burn down a room

Her smile could take any soul

Out of it's doom

So she continued her stride

All eyes watching

Guessing

Judging

Not seeing

Her silent gloom

She smiled in the day

and in the night she cried

All I want is to be loved

Her heart whispered back

There is no reason to hide

I am a human

Full of life

Full of joy

I am a spark in the night

A warm glorious light

I love the eyes of children

They are not afraid

They love me

Never giving up

Being and becoming

Bright

They accept my flaws

My beauty

My scars

My life

They love me

For who I am

And who I am

Is much more

That what your lips will speak

and what your ears

Will ever hear

Deep in the night

I struggle with anxiety and depression and it sucks. It's something I'll have to deal with my whole life. But where my source of joy comes from is writing. It helps me understand who I am and what I go through. These words are very real feelings that are very common in todays world. You are an extremely talented writer/author and I just want to let you know that, whenever you are going through something difficult or it just seems to much, just write! It will help you and others around you.
Your writing is incredible and keep up the incredible work!
If you want to, could you read my story, "the blonde girl," you don't have to if you don't want to, I just felt like I should share it with you.

I was lucky. I joined the Army. I met women who could do 80 sit-ups and 80 push-ups. Run two miles in 15 minutes or less. I ran with 15,000 solders. 2,000 were women. A 6.2 mile run. Everyone made it. I taught my daughters. Fear no-one and you can accomplish anything. I liked your words and you made me think. I believe dear Kathryn. You are a hurricane, not a peaceful river. Thank you dear friend for sharing the powerful and worthwhile words dear Kathryn.
