For Kathryn

For Kathryn

A Story by Kathryn Smith
"

An open letter

"
Our dearest Kathryn,
We stare back at you, day in...and day out.

Our faces of the past.

Black and white.

On your home screen.

Our eyes frozen in time.

Our expressions

Haunting

Probing questions in your head.

We are the children

The boys of Na Fianna Eireann.

And did you know this Kathryn?

If you're quiet for once....just for once...

With no music in your ears... no sound.

Just silence...

You will hear our shouting voices rise, hoot, and echo

Our thoughts thunder through your soul...

Kathryn....you have an entire army behind you.

Rallying for you.

Watching out for you.

Rooting for you.

Cheering you on..

We know you can see us.

We know you can feel us...

Now is the time to listen to us.

Do not let anyone rip you down.

Do not let anyone diminish your worth.

You are worth more than our heaven above.

You are worth more then gold itself.

You've blessed the Emerald Isle.

You've paid your respects.

Now, in turn, we pay ours.

Should any man lay words unkind.

Should any man disrespect you.

Make you feel broken...
You best leave him.

Kathryn, you'll be happier.

Do not be sad.

Do not cry.

Do not fear.

We will be happier.

Do you hear our footsteps marching above?

Our rage is pushing in the wind.

Our sorrow in the raindrops on your cheeks.

Kathryn -

Remember this -

And remember always;
There is a new dawn.

A new fight...

And before you knew us....

We loved you.

We've got you.
