Veins of Fire

Veins of Fire

A Story by Kathryn Smith

That's the price you pay
Leave behind your heartache c a s t  a w  a  y

Just another product of today

Rather be the hunter than the prey

She exudes sun

But the sun always sets

Darkness consumes land

It licks every source of light

Away

And she emerges from the darkness

Her eyes black

Her soul

Flaming

Her voice echoes her father

Icarus

Thunder claps

And in a poisonous thought

She whispers her way

To the starting line

Sitting in his garage

He is tormented

Self Centered

Unkind

Money Hungry

Toxic

Touching his face

She looks into his eyes

Blue as her favorite sky

A sky that is cloudless

She kisses him

The bottles line his home

With the devil in their shoes

They dance

And in his bed

She moans

Why stay?

They ask

Why not?

She says smiling

Cunningly

This game

Is a dangerous game

And lessons must be learned

We must find the finish line

And live our life

Of thrill

Her veins of fire

Warm him

Her fingertips

Teach him

And before he knows it

The girl in his clutches

The girl thought of sunlight

And goodness

Will both save him

And

Ruin him

It is every woman

For herself
