A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Free

I am not broken

for I am whole at last.

Too many tears have rolled,

too many barbs been cast.

The time is now,

the time is mine.

I will not bow,

I will steel myself

to enjoy

the wealth of my spirit.

To build upon a soul

so tortured

by a catholic past,

but so strong,

so willing

and determined

to break free.

I guess that is ho I view poetry
Though a tortured soul is uncomfortable to live with
and pain and indecision seem to go much deeper
I prefer that struggling soul to the complacent one
who looks about and down at other souls
on their own journey and in their own plight
trying to build more stately mansions

Wellsaid SW I agree totally. Many thanks.
A religion based on guilt is such a negative thing, no wonder so many are relieved to escape it.

Problem is we Catholics never truly escape the guilt of original sin lol
this may piss a few folks off, but i think of the catholic church and its dogma as oppression of the human spirit....i am all for freedom from religious persecution, but it includes freedom from being persecuted for not worshiping as others think you should. this write is relevant and sobering. thumbs way up.

Thanks Quin I think there are many like minded folk out there
I have been having a Catholic religion and our priest came In to talk with our class and said marriage isn't true unless you can have children, he also said it was the same with sex. I disagree. but I agree with this fully.

Thanks Xleana
I like this, the way it questions the value of the strict Catholic sexual codex, which causes so much misery as supressed sexuality..

I almost wish I didn't understand this so well! It's amazing what an effect organized religion has on the psyche. There should be a vaccination or something. Although I'm sometimes envious of the peace it brings some people. Really nice John.

Thanks Frieda and hope you are having a good New Years day!
Nothing can come in the way of such determination. Feels great to be free.

Unfortunately theres little we can do about that. Its just too deeply ingrained. Conditioned.
I'm not too big on organized religion myself. fear, oppression and guilt are not my ideas of the path to spirituality. nice write John.
