Fond

Fond

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Fond

My heart is snagged

on the barbs of frustration;

upon the horn of this dilemma

your kiss and touch tell me you want me.

They seem to have meaning,

They are passionate;

They feel true deep.

I have never felt such want

that takes me to delight

at the slightest touch.

I have never risen so readily

at a simple glance.

Never wanted to enter

so stiffly, so deep

and to pleasure another

so, so delightfully.

These feelings are expressions

of my love for you.

You hold me transfixed

in the majesty of you.

And I am lost in your cause;

yet you hold me in abeyance;

at a distance,

and are merely ‘fond’ of me.

Oh, that word "fond" took a hammer to that fellow's heart.
It would have been much kinder to have said she hated him, despised him,
that would at least have given him stature
and an affair in which both had power and strength over the other.
He is so impassioned by her, so wrapped in romantic haze at the thought of her
and she... she is "fond" of him.

A dilemma indeed

Quite nice description of those one-sided feelings. Worse to be the one falling for the one who is merely fond than the one who is merely fond of you. Tough situation, good description.

Yes it did feel tough at the time but not so now. Many thanks
This poem captures a moments of self-doubt nicely, I think.

you can't believe all that women tell you, but surely, i need not elaborate or expound upon that?
I have never trusted the word 'fond' when it comes to people, to me it's always lacked any kind of commitment, therein lies the problem. Tough being on the receiving end of that emotion....Nice work.

Yes they often are Leslie, Thanks
Ouch! The one-sided relationship. Not a good place to be. You captured this feeling well John. I have been on both sides of this coin, and while I am not sure which is the more uncomfortable side to sit on, I do know that either way, things are doomed. Nicely done.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
