The Deepest Love

The Deepest Love

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

The Deepest Love

We lay in the innocence of our dreams
And it wasn’t hard; it was simple.
Two kindred spirits reaching out for a distant star
And finding each other’s hearts.
In our arms there were no demands,
In our passion, no qualms.
Just the meeting of two shattered souls made whole again.
And our joy was pure and naked,
With no pretence and no lies.
So we drank long the pleasures from that trust
Of what can only be the deepest love.
