Humanity

Humanity

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

Humanity

What lays beneath the depth of such emotions

as can render adult hearts to aspic,

cause knees to buckle

with the weakness of surrender,

and enslave the soul in chains of dreams?

What mystery inspires such eloquence

to flow from the poet’s pen

or insatiate the ardent suitor’s lips

to spill sweet, romantic syllables?

What wonder does cause the musician

to play a solo symphony?

or the painter to choose

the oils for his canvas well?

What feelings lead a man

to slaughter his neighbour

for the colour of his skin

or leave the raped and starving child

to learn that no one really cares?

The beautiful and ugly sides of the spirit of man...
The ending jolted me.
A very touching poem John... the end was heartbreaking!
Sometimes all one can do is wonder...

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
