This Struggle

This Struggle

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Monsters don't sleep under your bed, they roam inside your head.

"

This Struggle

Trapped in my head,

thoughts so impure

that they might

make Satan blush.

The heart of a lion

held captive

by a wayward

and loose will.

Cognitions corrupted

by cascading creatures

of the blackest night.

A Catholic soul

that struggles to assert

any authority,

as Original Sin

is stained with darker

inks.

Save me from these demons,

cast them out,

before I save myself!

A fine poem that lives from inner tension, from contradiction, from struggle, and one that that throws up all kinds of fascinating theological questions..a poem I enjoyed !

Thank you so much Leslie!
posting this on my bathroom mirror ..we are sinful and in need ..i love the wisdom of dark sin having a link to darker deeper horror ... it is a struggle that goes on forever ... but each small victory of choice can drive a whole bucket of darkness away .. your closing line is intriguing for me ... not sure i ken your meaning ;}

I liked this poem. I felt the struggle of the heart and the body. The strong description made the reader feel the emotions. Thank you John for sharing the amazing poetry.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
