Purgatory is MineA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenSometimes life is simply hard.Purgatory
is Mine If I could move the hills and mountains, the towns and glass cities of brick and concrete and steel built between us. If I could shift the shadows, the dark clouds, the vows and the enduring memories, the pain, then I would. If dark nights were moonless and permanently cloudy, and days full of corners, then I would have somewhere to hide my black, treacle thick smudge of Catholic guilt. That seeping oily stain that burns into my soul, desecrating desire, restraining my heart, and tethering me to this sterile, barren and loveless path. Where I will yearn in the saddest nightmares for what might have been, for eternity. 16/10/17 © 2017 John Alexander McFadyen |
