The Hummingbird

A Poem by Dara

From flower to flower

it flits and sips

the nector so sweet

without using lips.

Beautiful! Loved it. The Hummingbird is a beautiful bird and you have shown it in your lines amazingly.
The way they drink, dance everything about these small creatures is wonderful. I wish we were like them, happy and carefree.

Hummingbirds drink with their tongues by rapidly lapping nectar. Their tongues have tubes which run down their lengths and help the hummingbirds drink the nectar. Great little poetic write highlighting the Hummingbird's 'dance'!

Thank you so much. They are very fascinating creatures.
Very funny. The poor bird can get the nectar he needs but can't kiss his mate.

Yes they are. Only birds I know of that can nearly disappear before your eyes.
For such a tiny little thing, they are an incredibly complex organism. Spent some time in South America a while back and saw a number close up. Very beautiful, like Beccy says, they make you believe there truly is a higher hand at work.
