A Tale of Guns and Roses

A Tale of Guns and Roses

A Poem by Dara
"

I thought I would re post this poem in response to the debate regarding the bearing of arms in our country.

"

Walking through the woods one day

I came upon a clearing

and there I saw a field of roses

their color so alluring.

My weary heart quickened

at the sight so rare

and my once tired feet

felt as light as air.

While I drank in the fragrance

of roses wafting in the breeze,

a woman dressed in a flowing gown

appeared from behind the trees.

Her face was a ghostly white

but she glistened like the sun

and in her pale fragile hand

I thought I saw a gun.

I held my breath, my head started to spin

and then my body froze,

for as she laid the gun to rest

it turned into a rose.

Author's Note

Dara
The woman 'planting' the gun represents the idea of exchanging guns for non violence. I came up with the title after the group "Guns and Roses" which I have always been intrigued by.

The metaphor you deliver here is astounding... I found myself interpreting this piece a different way each time I read it (3x). Each interpretation was impactful and thought provoking! Well done!

Would that the whole world would lay down their guns. Man's inhumanity to man is equalled nowhere else in nature.

Wow. Exceptional piece, Dara.

Perhaps those guns were traded in for Roses as a symbol of love and peace or even to represent those poor souls returned to the Earth; victims of the scourge of gun violence, with a Rose as their headstone.

This is a beautifully written poem. Lovely flow and rhyme and a wonderful idea about an important societal issue. There needs to be reform. And soon.

Very well done.

What a lovely thought this is, Dara. If only every gun could turn into a rose. Our world would be a much sweeter...and safer....place. I enjoyed the imagery here. Lydi**

If for every time a gun is laid down before death takes its toll, that it turns to a rose, perhaps our world someday will become a most beautiful, bountiful garden. Lovely message, Dara!
