When I Get To The Other Side

When I Get To The Other Side

A Poem by Dara
"

True love never really dies.

"

As he looked at her with eyes half closed
a slight smile upon his face,
she slowly knelt down and kissed his cheek
welcoming his weak embrace.

Their love had lasted the test of time
but now the end was near
and with bated breath she held his hand
then wiped away a tear.

She could feel his body growing weaker
with the dying of the light
and by that evening he had left her
like a ghost in the night.

But before he could muster up the strength
to take one last long breath,
she whispered softly in his ear
and this is what she said.

"Not even death can part us
my love for you will never die
and look for me my darling, you
when I get to the other side."

Dara
This is a tribute to my parents and a very bittersweet memory of one of their last moments together before my loving father passed away.

Heartwrenching sadness in this one. When a couple has been married over 40 or 50 years, it is unbearable when one dies. It would be nice if they were reunited in another realm...and who knows? We will not know till we have traveled there. Beautifully written, Dara. Great rhyming. Lydi**

Thank you! Take care and have a wonderful day :-)
Lots of affection in this poem. Death is so feared by us all, yet it is the most natural thing (everyone does it eventually!!!!). I think the beautiful sentiments, and the acceptance of 'the other side' make this a gentle, and heart-warming Poem.

A very poignant and softly mournful write, Dara.

I have yet to reach this painful part of life where one very close has departed but i do dread the day it comes. I just hope i can handle the circumstance as gracefully as your Father did.

This is a very moving, beautifully written and constructed tribute. Very well done.

Both my parents were taken young, so they were never afforded the pleasure of their golden years. How wonderful to see it with absolute clarity, after reading this. And what a comfort it must be for you, now!
