Out on a Limb

Out on a Limb

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

A lonely thrush in search of love...

"
Flying from storm to storm...

I found myself out on a limb...

Not a friend in sight...

only a Hermit Thrush from the Rockies

He chirped and chirped until daylight

with a reddish tail that flew like a kite...

I followed him in the noon day sun

landing on sunflowers with seed to

nourish our soul...

Myself a Wood Thrush with a brown back

and a spotted creamy breast...

with our love song we headed west...

I love the way your poem reveals everything VERY SLOWLY! It’s not clear we have two bird lovers here until quite late in your story. Everything you share could apply to human or bird, but more & more, we recognize this as a woodland connection of the featheries! You have a great command of describing the various birds & which ones would be drawn together, in particular locations, etc. You convey the birds’ essences as if they are very distinct entities (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Apparently, when littler - (you guessed, mere years ago -ha!) I thought birds were angels with different coloured wings and they sang because God had taught them how. Silly sweet and yet, whose to know differently!

How lovely a poem yours is, a view from the heart of tweet goings on.. annually, expertly. There's a special feeling between Man and Birds, perhaps because they fly freely into the weather and somehow, survive to live and love at will. Something we earth-bound creatures just can't do. And you, dear friend, have woven such a beautiful and charming tale of love on the wing, plus, how it might be learned from too when it comes to different human species. If only.

I read this like I was viewing it from my kitchen window, coffee in hand, looking to see if my morning singer had any luck in finding a companion. It would play out over many days, where I would be looking out each day, having already filling in his back story of being unwanted as a chick, thrown out the nest and left to fend for himself alone. Of course we all know that he will get his wish, as he sang so beautifully, but we will miss his song as he flies away to his new life. :)
Beautifully penned Pat. Perfect for a Monday morning read. :)

Such a lovely poem. It flows so well and the message is so endearing. Reading this, I could picture a bird lost in a storm only to find peace in the end.

How lovely and endearing. The descriptive quality builds the mood well and one must love a happy ending with the birds off to honeymoon somewhere out west. :) I enjoyed the read.
