Glory Days (SaM'S and Me)

Glory Days (SaM'S and Me)

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe
"

Picture This

"
Having, being, feeling lost I came across
SaM'S -a or the sign seemed a bit like me-
Fallen from the ages of a crumbling building
The sign was mangled and completely
                    B R O K E N
                        SaM'S
With  a letter missing the second to be
                    E X A C T an -
                         "A"
No longer did this sign shine down in
Neon glory inviting and welcoming
Lost souls that were a bit mangled,
Crumbled from ages with a missing letter

How strange this sign and I had so much in common
An inanimate object
And a semi- inanimate human

I bet , I just bet you were something wonderful,
Beautiful, inviting and enticing in your glory days
SAM"S
I bet you could, did bring the house down
Back then- SAM"S

Now you lie here in a dirty alleyway
Alone and broken dreaming of " when"

Funny how much you and I have in common SAM"S
I said as I hung you upon my wall ...
Humming along with The Boss -
"Glory day's, yeah they'll pass you by "...

You got yourself a free neon sign sam's place come in and lets twist and shout a little night club down south where the youth used to meet For a sandwich and some drinks and talk like they never talked before in their short lives. Sam's a place of reminiscing of ones past I hope you had a blast for your past.

You brought this whole scenario brilliantly to life, I thought Sam was going to be a significant other, only to find it's an inanimate object, but you had it dancing on your pages .....way to go. Well done!

I don't think anyone could have made me feel sad over a broken Sam's sign... but you did just that. Bravo! I have a huge dislike for that particular box store, so it takes alot of well crafted ink to make me feel any empathy at all towards that sign... ;)

The overall poem gave me a sense of remembering the good ole days. Like wishing drive in's still had pretty girls and rollar skates, or back when gas was under 2 dollars a gallon.

I must say this... we all evolve along the path of time, some buildings are less successful than other living creatures. But I'm certain that a poet's inkformed wings can carry you though to times that are brighter, dryers and full of awesome future memories. =)

Thanks for sharing!

The prospect of the Glory days leaving us is...frightening to say the least. But this is lovely, and speaks volumes about your inspiration.

This is very interesting and I really like it. Which is saying something as I do not usually enjoy a lot of Poetry. Great job!

I'm in a situation right now where all I'm doing is dreaming of "when". This is beautiful.
